The roots of ACCAPI start when the founder Bruno Chiaruttini specialized in manufacturing socks in Brescia, Northern Italy about a century ago. Claudio Chiaruttini his son, after experience gained from his father founded and registered in 1984 the trademark ACCAPI and diversified production, specializing in implementations of technical socks for all sports.
Since 1987, the company began to develop their own original patents consolidating its presence first in the Italian market and subsequently in most European countries. Over the past decades ACCAPI has diversified their supply chain to Asia, supporting the production of socks with technical baselayer lines for Performance, Recovery and Wellness.
As ACCAPI entered Japan one of the goals was to see if the ACCAPI technology could help the aging population. In 2018 with the full support of Dokkyo Medical University Hospital Medical Safety Promotion Center Professor, Muneto Tatsumoto attempted a year long study to see if the EQT technology could prevent falls of in-patients which has been an increasing problem for all hospitals throughout Japan.
The Study was done at the Dokkyo Medical University Hospital at one of the surgical wards in 2018 for 12 months. All the admitted patients in this ward were worn a wristband which included EQT material. It was to compare the number of falls with the previous year (2017).
In-Patient Falls |
Percentage of In-Patient Falls |
Total number of In-Patients in the Ward |
|
---|---|---|---|
2017 (Without EQT) |
27 | 0.2% | 13,491 |
2018 (WITH EQT) |
14 | 0.1% | 12,875 |
The study concluded to find that the EQT technology could prevent falls which would lead to extended healthy life expectancy.
Also, other studies included 10 patients with neurological disorders. The tests performed were manual muscle strength test, RehaGait test, and center of gravity sway monitor tests which were to check muscle strength before and after wearing EQT tights.
As a result of one patient with peripheral neuropathy, there was in improvement in her lower limb muscle strength (manual muscle strength test: iliopsoas muscle 4→5, triceps surae muscle 4→5).
Simple walking analysis (RehaGait) of 10 meters, there was an improvement in speed (35 seconds → 18 seconds), a decrease in the number of steps, and an increase in foot height.
Also in the center of gravity sway monitor test, improvements were found in trajectory length (open eyes: 162 cm → 115 cm).
The tests concluded EQT tights could be a supporting walking aid for some patients with weakness in their leg muscles.
